The next best thing to Morocco is a trip to the Bead Bazaar!
It’s full of inspiration and great people watching . . . even some happy to pose for your lens!
This may look like a tangle of beads, but I see my next painting’s palette.
Indigo blues take my breath away.
“Kuba cloth” sends me on a journey far into my imagination.
Pattern, design, and texture will soon find their way into a sketchbook exploration.
Gorgeous, rich and exotic details imprint themselves on my artist’s soul.
If I were braver (or richer) I’d be on a plane to Egypt or Tangier right now….but I’m not.
Until then, I will paint, draw and be inspired by these lovely, tiny pieces of art.
Hammered, hand made, woven and spun.
I may never see the Souk, but in this market place I dream of far away places.
Tonight, I’ll have visions of vibrant pigment, spice and textile.
I long to wrap myself in cloths such as these . . .
ME a blonde haired, green eyed American – far from exotic am I!
I do tend to pile on the turquoise and silver – I can blame my Texas heritage for that!
My own collection has grown heavy over the years.
I have a glass cabinet full of such treasures – it belongs in the bazaar!
One day I’ll show you MY things.
Until then, enjoy the photos of jade, amber, brass and stone.
Let yourself be inspired by the color combinations or by tiny embroidered and beaded symbols.
Imagine running your hands through this basket of African crosses –
feel how far they have traveled.
Hear the clatter of shells and wooden beads as you rummage through.
Let your eye fall on deep lapis against canary yellow.
I have a wish for you, my artistic friend.
My hope is that you discover small artistic adventures of your own.
Find what makes your heart swoon – find what will drive you to the paper or canvas or page.
On those adventures, take along your camera or a sketchbook.
Let it inspire your next creative endeavor!
